Obituary for Lauren Gray

Mr. Lauren Gray, 82, of Allegheny Township, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 in AHN Hospice at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.

Mr. Gray was born in Allegheny Township in 1936, the son of the late Mr. Albert (Edwin) Gray and Dorothy (Oberleiter) Gray. He was a 1954 graduate of Vandergrift High School. Upon graduation, he proudly served as a member of the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, he returned to the area where he married and began his family. As a young man, he demonstrated his passion for baseball by playing for several years as a member of Markle and Allegheny Township teams in the tri-county league.

He applied his mechanical skills to a few local jobs before finding his niche as a heavy equipment mechanic with Beckwith Machinery. He retired in 2000 after 30 years of service. Lauren was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, companion, friend, coach and neighbor. He possessed a great strength of character and high moral standards. He was always willing to help out someone in need whether they were family, friend or stranger.

His passions included his family (and supporting their many events), hunting, fishing, gardening, classic country music, traveling, baseball, dogs, and watching golf and collegiate sports especially football and wrestling (with occasional trips to Happy Valley).

He will be remembered most for his strong, yet gentle demeanor and principled nature along with a good sense of humor and willingness to meet you with a kind smile and helping hand. He also displayed a very strong work ethic and was always on the move with some sort of project or fixing something – a trait he no doubt inherited from his father.

Aside from some medical setbacks he experienced over the years, he led a full, productive and happy life. Special thanks to the staff at Rosebrook where he resided the past few years as well as to all his outstanding doctors and nurses who cared for him over the years, many with who he developed a special bond and friendship.

He is survived by his loving family – son, Dave (Robin) Gray; daughter, Lorraine (husband Frank Kelly) Gray; granddaughter, Marissa; sister, Elaine (John) Glovier; several cherished nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Services will be private. Friends and family are requested to raise a toast to his memory and to occasionally think about a special moment or event you shared together and crack a smile or break into laughter.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 100 Owens View Ave. Apollo, PA.
