Obituary for Doris Burall Fahringer

Doris Burall Fahringer, 96 of Cabot, formerly of Washington Township, passed away on January 2, 2019 in Concordia of Wexford.

Born February 3, 1922, in “Land of Promise” her parents’ farm in Frederick County, MD, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Emma Metcalfe Burall. She grew up with a love of horses and her favorite collie dog, Peggy.

Doris met David Fahringer at Penn State University in 1941. After her graduation from Hood College in 1943, they were married in Texas where Dave was an Air Force Cadet. With their daughter, Lynne, they lived in a number of states as David worked as a landscape architect. In 1956 they moved to Monroeville where they became charter members of Garden City United Methodist Church. There she was active in Sunday school, the Women’s Organizations and served on the Altar Committee for thirty seven years.
When David retired, they moved to Washington Township and joined the Apollo Presbyterian Church. There she served as a Deacon and with Dave delivered Meals on Wheels for a number of years. Later, while living at Concordia Cabot, they joined the Cabot United Methodist Church.

Doris had a life-long interest in the Civil War. This interest was instilled by her grandfather, Clinton Metcalfe, who was 10 years old at the time of the Battle of Gettysburg and remembered incidents of the war in the area of Frederick County.
Doris loved to read, travel and play golf. She was a long- time member of Willowbrook Country Club and the Women’s Western PA Golf Association.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband David Fahringer, sister, Marian Burall- Monk and grandson, Carl Schneider.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynne (Robert) Fahringer Schneider, grandchildren, Eileen (James) Cashour, Mark Schneider and Janette Schneider, great-grandson-David Cashour and beloved niece Deborah (Charles) Monk Biller.

At the request of the family, service and interment were private. A memorial service will be held at Concordia Haven II at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doris’ name to the Concordia Lutheran Care Ministries, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023. .
